Thank GOD that the troubled youth of today have a safe haven in a welcoming community. Oh, wait... The Gazette in Blackpool ran this story:
A group of pensioners and children alike cheer at their victory of keeping a home for children out of their neighbourhood. The plans were blocked because of anticipated noise and privacy effects on the immediate neighbours...
This was despite the fact that Mr Lyman (planning inspector) said in his report he had “no doubt” the scheme would “provide a high quality caring environment." But, why should that matter?
He added, "the proposal would not materially harm the living conditions of most neighbours and that, in this case, fear of crime does not carry significant weight."
In short, youth who have experienced difficult childhoods were denied a safe, caring home and neighbourhood because of noise concerns. That seems about right.
Congratulations to this week's NIMBY Neighbours of the Week:
Preston New Road, Blackpool!
